Execution at the speed of trust

Most AI demos sit at 95% accuracy. The pitch deck rounds that to “AI does the work.” The engineering team rounds the 5% gap to “we’ll close it in v2.” The customer finds out which round was right in production.

There is a hard line in autonomous execution. Below roughly 99.5% sustained accuracy across diverse tasks, a human has to stay in the loop. Above it, they don’t. Below the line you have a tool. Above the line you have an operator. The economics of those two things are not in the same universe.

A tool that saves thirty minutes of work an hour is a productivity feature. An operator that does the whole hour without you is labor replacement. Same model, same demo, different category, billion-dollar difference.

The 4.5% gap between those two states is not rounding error. It is the entire product.

Most AI companies are stuck below the line and don’t know it, because their demos run on cherry-picked happy paths. The first time the model is wrong about something a customer actually cared about, the trust is gone, and a customer with no trust treats your AI like a tool no matter how accurate it is on average. The accuracy number on your evals is not the accuracy number in your customer’s head.

I watch this play out every week in RMM. An agent that resolves 19 out of 20 tickets unattended sounds like a miracle until the 20th one closes a ticket the tech needed open, or restarts a server at 2pm, or emails a customer something almost-right. After that, the tech is back in the loop on all 20. The 95% never compounds into autonomy. It just becomes a faster way to second-guess.

Trust is the only currency that scales execution. Without it, the human stays in the loop and your unit economics never improve. With it, the human leaves the loop and the cost of doing the work drops by an order of magnitude. The companies that figure this out first will not win on features. They will win because their customers actually let the AI run.

The 95% AI is a demo. The 99.5% AI is a business model.
